behind the book

it has been a long time coming, this collection of poems... not that many people are waiting! 

this is not my career, this is more aligned to my calling. i have known for a long time that my role on earth is to spread very localised magic; to make people feel seen, supported and safe. 

my literature background? it consists of a B grade in A-level english literature and a moderate enthusiasm for reading. i love an annual Goodreads challenge.

despite this moderate literary accreditation i have spent years processing my life and its various chapters by leaning into words. i find solace in exploring narratives and my feelings more deeply, but also safely. putting thoughts into words holds an underestimated power (hence the power of journalling). it forces honesty alongside thought, not a law true of our minds. often, when you write something out, an impactful insight comes with it. 

undoubtedly influenced by rupi kaur, i began creating whimsical plays with words as both a form of therapeutic outlet and a genuine hobby. this started around 2018. i found the modern twists on poetry more appealing to play with as opposed to classic poetry. 

now we find ourselves here: with a book holding them all together, like a great big hug. in some ways, that is the perfect metaphor for this book. hugs are helpful in life, and my twenties had some of the most imperative hugs of my life. if any of my poems can make someone feel seen, supported or safe in a sense, then that is my hug to you. i hope they find their way to the right eyes.
